How I'm losing weight with Slimming World

I recently made the decision to go back to slimming world, and I've had quite a few people ask me how it works, how you can possible lose weight without exercising etc. so I decided to make a blog post!

Now, I can't take you all through everything, as this would be a super duper long post, so I'm just going to cover the basic bits, and tell you a little bit about how I'm finding it myself.

Now, first things first, the cost.
It initially costs just under £10 to join, and with this you receive your pack (pictured above) with the books on Body Magic, Syns, Extra Easy, general info etc. And your slimming world card.

Then, each week its £4.95, you pay first, then get weighed (which gets logged in your personal weight loss book) and then there's staying to group after.

I would say the biggest and most important part of Slimming World, is staying to group. Through this you can discuss with your group leader how you're doing, here how other people are finding it, share recipes, helpful info, support etc. It's simply amazing, and the women are so lovely!

So, I bet you're all wondering how it works?!
Well, it's simple, you have your Free Foods, your Speed Foods, and your Syned Foods. And what you have to do, is fill up your plate with all the speed foods and free foods that you can!
Then, you have 15 syns to play around with in any way that you want!

I know this sounds a little confusing, so I'll give you all a few examples, the following are all Free Foods:

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Fish
  • Meat (no skin, sauces etc
  • Eggs
  • Dry pasta, rice, grains
  • Beans, peas and lentils

And within these, you will have your Speed Foods (very low in calories) and these include things like:

  • Apples
  • Clementines
  • Melon
  • Oranges
  • Peaches (very important for me of course)
  • Strawberries
  • Carrots
  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Mushrooms
  • Lettuce
When you first join group, you will have a new members talk, and they will take you through all of this, but you basically want to fill up your plate with 2/3 Free Foods and 1/3 Speed Foods.

A nice little example of this is what I have for breakfast! You will find Slimming World recipes of pretty much every meal out there, and for breakfast I usually have Oat Pancakes, with a drizzle of honey and Bananas.

Now, I'm sure you're all thinking this sounds fine, but I like chocolate, alcohol, crisps etc. and this my lovely people, is where your 15 syns come in!

To help keep those cravings at bay, you're advised to have up to 15 syns a day, and you can use them on whatever you like!

For instance, if you can't eat salad with dressing or sauce, you can add some, but just remember to syn it!

If you love having a bit of chocolate, just remember to syn it! (For example, a single bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk is 12 syns)

Now, you have to remember that you must syn everything and once your 15 syns are gone, they're gone, you must not eat anything else, as you will not get optimum weight loss!

Now, if you follow all of this, you can lose up to half a stone in your first week alone! And you don't have to do any exercise at all! IF you're super lazy like me that will be music to your ears!

Of course, there is so much more involved with Slimming World, including different plans, recipe books, extra support, body magic etc. But all you need to do, is join a group! I can guarantee there will be one near you somewhere!

And as for me? I'm currently doing slimming world, and in the past I have lost nearly a stone just from following the plan and guidelines mentioned above, and I have recently joined again to get down to my goal weight. I go once and week, and I love it! I'm never hungry, I'm making more meals with more diversity and goodness than ever! And, I can't recommend it enough!
